The firmament is inspired by the photos from the Hubble Space Telescope. The Hubble
has been in service since the 1990s now, so the photos are no longer novel, but when
they were first revealed to the public they were astonishing. The scale of cosmic
structures like The Pillars of Creation, a gas cloud that stretches for light years, are truly
mind boggling and awe inspiring. This work is inspired by several of these photos.
