Jeffrey A. Young
Symphony No. 4 (2023)
I. Maestoso
II. Adagio
III. Presto
IV. Allegro
V. Hymn
This work has style elements of Late Romantic, Expressionistic, and Minimalist types of work. The Symphony differs from the Classical organization in two ways: It is five movements, and the individual movements do not adhere to one affectation but rather explore several different emotional states—much as a tone poem would. The final movement is a pastiche, comprised of old hymns.
