After an intense, mallet heavy opening, movement one of Symphony no. 23 sets into a rhythmically driving Allegro. A strong declarative melody sets the style and tone for the Second movement, alternating with lush woodwind counterpoint. A Scherzo third movement follows and a triumphant fourth movement rounds out the symphony.
