Magnificat (2025)

This single-movement, sacred work for Chorus and Wind Band, uses Mary’s hymn glorifying god as a text and creative launch point. Using word painting throughout to illuminate the text, Magnificat contains stylist ideas borrowed from Italian Opera and Renaissance music to express Mary’s feelings when John The Baptist leaps in Elizabeth’s womb. Considered one of the eight most ancient Christians hymns and the earliest of what is known as the Marian hymns, the text is in Latin and is taken from the Gospel of Luke.
