Stabat Mater (2023)
Stabat Mater, which translates as Standing Mother, is the 13-century Latin hymn describing Mary’s anguish as she stands by the foot of the Cross. Like the Te Deum, it is a text that has been set by many composers, including Rossini, Palestrina and Poulenc just to name a few. Slow and solemn throughout, the work expresses through music the pain and dismay that Mary would have felt watching her son crucified before her.
